"Hic Sunt Leones"
Dear friends, Romans used to mark over their maps with "Hic Sunt Leones" (from latin: "the lions are here") where the Roman Empire's southern territories end, just behind the green belt under the Mediterranean African coast...
This because from those lands come the wild animals which had been sacrified during "panem et circenses", the great spectacles offered by the Emperor in the arenas.
We have ridden our CR&S VUN down in those lands on our annual VUNIC's big roundtrip:
Tunisia, over most part of its small territory and Libya, just around Tripolitania, till the big oasis of Gadèmes. Here are some pics from this trip, we obviously decided to call "Hic sunt Leones"...
